Self-Insert Homestuck OC

Dec 15, 2014

The main character, Avery, started off as a self-insert Mary Sue of myself to Andrew Hussie's webcomic titled "Homestuck." Which eventually branched over into having overlap in Steven Universe as a Mary Sue. Exercising myself in fiction to better understand my identity and the world around me. Including through my toughest feat in fighting for my own custody alongside my mom, and supportive younger brother, from my abusive birth father. For the next few years, I let those memories roll around in my head until I started imagining my MOTHER as a queen, and my FATHER as a tyrannical king. Combined with my growing interest in indigenous culture and politics, through me discovering my own family's history and culture, I slowly constructed Sacred Beast through the years.

Why Tally Hall?

Sacred Beast has undergone many names in the past. Eventually landing on the name itself for me realizing that I have unknowingly have been listening and finding inspiration from them (Tally Hall) my entire life. My first introduction to Tally Hall, technically, was on Yo Gabba Gabba. The "Happy Monster Band's" hits were performed by none other than Joe Hawley (yellow monster) and his bandmates. From there, it was of memes directly tied to the band itself sprinkled throughout fandoms I have traveled through throughout the years, and my eventual realization came when the song "Sacred Beast" was a perfect fit for my developing concept for a story. With their broad and interpretable lyrics combined with their timeless sound, too, Tally Hall was already perfect for talking about any and everything. Which is exactly what Sacred Beast strives to do.

Marketability

There's an agenda, and then there's just agenda. I want Sacred Beast to remain as well rounded as possible so it meets as many people as possible. The story is not necessarily suited for younger audiences, but those who can, should watch it.

Accessibility

Novels, visual novels, live-action shows, the art of storytelling for the sake of accessibility and inclusivity is chief priority for me. I see this story taking many shapes, from stageplays to novels, though seeing it animated someday would be the cherry on top of any of this.

Collaboration

Getting the word of the people is chief priority before distributing this project to its fullest capacity. It's an obligation that for the voices I am trying to include to let them have their voice and speak for themselves through the series as it grows and develops.
